Dr Ele Porteous

Clinical Psychologist

DClin Psych, MNZCCP

I know that coming to therapy, especially for the first time, can be challenging for a whole range of reasons. In our sessions I aim to make sure everyone feels welcomed and accepted, and hopefully even a little invigorated. I value the knowledge, skills, identities, and experience that each individual client brings into the therapy room. I utilise aspects of several different therapeutic approaches, but my core framework for understanding and working with mental health difficulties is Acceptance and Commitment therapy (ACT). My expertise is in short-term, focused work, so if more than 10-15 sessions are required, I may talk with you about transitioning to another provider.

Areas of expertise/interest:

·       Clients who are parents/struggling with parenting/parenting stress

·       Pregnant and post-partum clients (babies up to 1 year are welcome in session)

·       Christian clients

·       People who face weight-based discrimination and/or have body image difficulties

·       Anxiety

·       Depression

·       Body focused repetitive behaviours (e.g. hair pulling and skin picking)

·       Obsessions and compulsions or OCD

·       People who have experienced a traumatic event

·       Professional supervision

Qualifications and Affiliations

·       Doctorate of Clinical Psychology from Auckland University
