Kia ora! Ko Ascutney te maunga e rū nei taku ngākau. Ko Mahurangi te awa e mahea nei aku māharahara. Nō Matakana ahau. E mihi ana ki ngā tohu o nehe, o Tāmaki Makaurau e noho nei au.

I’m Katie, a registered psychologist passionate about helping individuals and communities flourish.

My work has spanned both adults and adolescents across a range of public health settings, including pain services, oncology, youth development, and youth justice. I have a particular interest in body image and eating behaviour across the lifespan, especially binge eating disorder in adults and avoidant/restrictive food intake disorder (ARFID) in childhood and adolescence. My PhD explored Intuitive Eating in adolescence, embedding this framework within school-based health promotion. This work has provided a strong foundation for supporting tamariki and rangatahi experiencing ARFID, fussy eating, anxiety, self-esteem difficulties, body image concerns, or challenges reconnecting with hunger and fullness cues.

My therapeutic approach is primarily grounded in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy – Enhanced for Eating Disorders (CBT-E), while drawing on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Intuitive Eating, and Health at Every Size (HAES) where appropriate.

I enjoy working with clients experiencing a wide range of challenges, including anxiety, mood difficulties, and physical health concerns. My practice is guided by empathy, collaboration, and authenticity, creating a safe, empowering space where you can feel seen, heard, and understood. I provide client-centred, queer-affirming, and neurodivergent-friendly care, and want you to feel comfortable bringing all the important parts of yourself into the room.

Alongside my clinical practice, I am a Research Fellow at the University of Auckland, contributing to digital health research that develops equitable interventions for tamariki and rangatahi living with diabetes. I enjoy translating research into practical, evidence-based care and remain actively involved in teaching, supervision, and health psychology research.
