There are many challenges facing individuals and families, and my aim is to provide the support they need in my area of expertise.  My interests and experience are in the identification and management of developmental conditions that start in childhood but can continue into adult life.  Examples of these include ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorders, and differing degrees of learning or cognitive problems.  At Therapy Space I see people aged 16 and over who have or may have ADHD.

If you want to read more about my work at Therapy Space and the assessment process and costs, you could look at my website: https://bestlives.co.nz

My in-depth understanding of how ADHD and other neurodevelopmental conditions manifest in childhood and adolescence is very relevant when it comes to the identification and ongoing management of the same conditions or challenges in adult life.  I am therefore very interested in helping young adults and adults looking to be assessed, including working with parents who think that they too may have ADHD, often after the same is diagnosed in their child.   This is the work I undertake at Therapy Space.  I am in a collegial relationship with an adult psychiatrist, and part of a psychiatry peer review group. This allows me to extend the age range I work with.

I have been working in the field of Community and Developmental Paediatrics, including Mental Health, for over 30 years, and have worked for over 11 years as a Consultant in the ADHD and Neurodevelopmental pathways at the Kari Centre (Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service), and for over 20 years in the Developmental Paediatric service at Starship Children’s Health.  My work allows me the real privilege of being involved with children, families and their wider whanau, often over many years.

I was born in Whakatane, but grew up mainly in the UK. I graduated from the University of Southampton with Distinction in Clinical Medicine in 1987.  I trained in General, Community and Developmental Paediatrics in the UK and New Zealand.  During this time I also completed a Doctorate of Medicine (DM) in Epidemiology at the Medical Research Council Environmental Epidemiology Unit in Southampton UK.  I am an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of Auckland, and I have published in the field of human development and disability. I am the mother of two boys and love mountain biking, travel, and sailing.
