Phoebe Poulter

Clinical Psychologist

PGDipClinPsy, MNZCCP

I believe that everybody has the capacity to heal, flourish, and grow from emotional struggle, whether that be coming from a place of diagnosed mental illness, a period of adjustment or stress, or simply wishing to better understand your patterns of behaviour and where they come from. Therapy is one tool that can help people navigate this journey more effectively and access personal growth.

I predominantly work with adolescents and young adults struggling with a range of anxiety-based difficulties, eating difficulties and body image issues, stress/burnout, pain management and coping with medical diagnoses, and men’s mental health. I have a special interest in maternal mental health and sports psychology, and am available to provide psychological skills training to athletes, their parents, and coaches to optimise athletic performance. I am currently the Athlete Wellbeing Coordinator for Eastern Suburbs Gymnastics Club.

I am eclectic in my approach to therapy, comprising elements of a range of evidence-based approaches depending on the individual who walks through my door. These include: Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Self-Compassion, Mindfulness Meditation, concepts and skills derived from Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), and Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT). I am also trained in Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR).

I am registered with the New Zealand Psychologists Board and have experience across both public and private, mental and physical health settings, working with children, adolescents and adults.
