The words “everybody hurts, sometimes” from a song (REM) always resonate with me, because as humans we all hurt in different ways at various times. Sometimes we might pretend we don’t or forget that we are all vulnerable.  As a society we don’t always create the space for hurting to be ok.

Therapy is a unique place that creates that space where you can bring anything and everything without judgement. It is a place to come with curiosity to feel understood, to understand yourself, your relationships and your choices.  Together with your therapist you can find more effective ways to resolve hurts and struggles, in order to be able to live fully with mental and emotional wellbeing.

I have 25 years of experience in adult mental health services in New Zealand. I am also a mother of 3 young adults and have my own lived experience of mental health difficulties. My own experience of therapy helped me a lot. I grew up in Hamilton and did my undergraduate degree in Dunedin and then my postgraduate studies in Auckland and have lived here with my whanau since.

Therapy approach

My approach is down to earth and straight up. I work to provide a real relationship with another human being which can facilitate the path to wellness. I also have a good sense of humour which I use in my practice. I believe this is an important part of balance in life when things get tough.

I’m most experienced in working with relationship difficulties, life changes, stress, anxiety disorders, depression, trauma, emotional regulation difficulties and dissociation. I work with ages 16 and older. The main therapy models I use are Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR) and Mindfulness.

I am also available to other psychologists for supervision or consultation sessions.

Qualifications and memberships

My qualifications are Bachelor of Arts (English), Master of Arts (Psychology), and Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Psychology (PGDipClinPsych). I am registered with the NZ Psychologist’s Board and am a member of the NZ Psychological Society.
