Tenisha Kumar

Counsellor

Kia ora,

I am an Aotearoa-born Fijian-Indian and and offer short term counselling and long term therapy to individuals, couples and youth (16+ years).

I have 14+ years of experience working with diverse communities throughout Aotearoa New Zealand and as an ethnic woman of colour, I offer a trauma-informed and culturally responsive lense to therapy.

My approach is grounded in cultural humility, compassion and respect for the unique experiences and identities that each person brings. Drawing on evidence informed approaches and a deep appreciation for cultural perspectives, my therapeutic approach is systemic and holistic, acknowledging the impact of historical, social and cultural influences on mental health and wellbeing.

I work with a variety of mental health issues and my specialist areas are 1.5 and 2nd generation migrants, cross-cultural relationships, complex family dynamics, belonging, identity, life transitions, grief and trauma.

I hope to provide a warm, safe and hopeful space for people to explore the nuance's of life's journey and develop skills to support healing in a collaborative way.
